Bird Festival in Bilaspur to promote conservation

Monday, 22 February 2021 | Staff Reporter | BILASPUR

The Bilaspur Forest Division on Sunday organized a ‘Hamar Chirai-Hamar Chinhari’ (Bird Festival) in village Kopra to promote forest conservation and create awareness on climate change.

Apart from the Bird Festival, environment related photography, painting and rangoli competitions were held and awards were given away to the winners, an official communication said.

MLA Takhatpur Rashmi Singh told the gathering that there was a need to create more awareness on protecting and conserving environment.

With birds migrating from foreign countries and breeding in different water bodies, the villagers needed to protect them from poaching, he said.

The villagers and organizers took part in a drive to make the area plastic free and also cleaned the banks around the Kopra reservoir. Visitors took photographs of the birds from a watch tower at the site.

Bilaspur Commissioner Sanjay Alang, State Biodiversity Board member Arun Pandey and Chief Conservator of Forests Anil Soni were present at the event.
