The BJP on Wednesday staged sit-in-protests and rallies in Chhattisgarh in support of farmers who it said faced problems during paddy procurement and what it said was failure on the part of the Congress government to smoothen the process and related issues.
BJP state President Vishnudeo Sai said at the protest venue at Jashpur that the anti-farmer face of the Congress government was revealed as it kept blaming the Central government for its own failures, a party communication said.
Former Chief Minister and national Vice President Dr Raman Singh said at Rajnandgaon that the Congress government is busy giving excuses when it comes to fulfilling its promises. This is why the farmers are facing difficulties.
Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said at Bilha (Bilaspur) that the crop land area has been reduced and fake fertilizers, seeds and pesticides are widely available in the market, causing loss to farmers.
At Raipur, a demonstration was led by MP Sunil Soni along with former ministers. The Durg demonstration was led by Rajya Sabha MP Saroj Pandey while Ramvichar Netam led the protest at Ramanujganj.
In rural areas, motorcycle, tractor and bullock-cart rallies were taken out.
