State BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo on Friday said that the State Government has shown its indifferent attitude towards the Panchayati Raj system by not conducting Panchayat elections at the scheduled time. Pratul said that the way in which the State Government is running the top-level bureaucracy of the State, the same system is now being seen in the panchayati raj as well. When two bye elections can be conducted in the State and Assembly polls can be conducted in Bihar, the State Government is running away from holding the panchayat elections.
Pratul said that there will be direct intervention of bureaucracy in the alternative system as the committee will not only have representatives nominated by the Deputy Commissioner but will also be the District Panchayati Raj Officer, the concerned Sub-Divisional Officer and CO.
Shadeo further said that the basic objective of creating Panchayati Raj institutions was to establish village and local government there. But instead of holding elections, the State government has formed a committee with bureaucratic interference. He said that this government is completely indifferent to panchayat elections. The post of DGP and Home Secretary is in charge in the State where Naxal activities have increased and a record number of rapes and murders have occurred.
