The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is desperately trying to win ground it has lost in Uttar Pradesh due to poor governance, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Saturday.
Since the BJP does not address public related issues, it works on other aspects, he said, adding that Uttar Pradesh has been listed as the poorest state in a NITI Aayog report.
Poverty, malnutrition, and unemployment had increased in Uttar Pradesh, turning every category of people against the BJP government in the state, Baghel said.
Interacting with the media before a public meeting at Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh, Baghel said even with 300 MLAs, the BJP is feeling weak. That is why it is entering into alliances with different parties.
By laying foundation stones they are trying to lure electors, he said. They should have done work but that has not happened. "Farmers, workers, traders and the unemployed are desperate."
The strengthening of the Congress organization was witnessed at election rallies at Varanasi (the Prime Minister’s constituency) and Gorakhpur (the Chief Minister’s home area) and now at Mohaba (Bundelkhand region), he said.
The Congress was also taking along seniors as their experience will benefit the organization. It is not like BJP which sidelines veterans like L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and others, he said.
He blamed previous BJP governments in Chhattisgarh for it coming in the fifth position in the malnutrition list of NITI Aayog. In the last two years there has been a reduction in malnutrition by 32 percent, he said.
