Budget affirms govt commitment for quality education

Affirming its commitment for quality education, the Uttar Pradesh budget for the next fiscal 2021-22 has allocated Rs 18,172 crore for the Basic Education Department.

The budgetary grants for the education also include integrated education campaign, Rs 110 crore and Rs 40 crore respectively for providing free school bags and uniforms to all students of classes 1 to 8 every year.

In addition to this, Rs 3,406 crore has been earmarked for the mid-day meal programme and Rs 300 crore for providing shoe-stocking and sweaters to all children.

For the secondary education, Rs 200 crore has been allocated for development of infrastructure facilities in aided private secondary schools, Rs 100 crore for completing the remaining works of the government inter colleges under construction.

Rs 90 crore has been earmarked for the construction of a new Sainik School in Gorakhpur and completion of the remaining works at the Sainik Schools in Mainpuri, Jhansi and Amethi.

A provision of Rs 15 crore has been made for construction of a girls' hostel and an auditorium in the Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey Sainik School in Sarojini Nagar, Lucknow. In addition to this, Rs 5 crore has been proposed for the formation of Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Education Directorate and an office of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Sanskrit Education Council and construction of aided non-government secondary schools.

For higher education, budgetary provision of Rs 200 crore has been proposed for the development of Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya and a state university to be set up in each division of the state.
