Chhattisgarh will do a death audit during Covid-19 due to lack of oxygen, Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo announced on Thursday.
The Minister tweeted that the Union government, by stating that no deaths were reported from states, had talked about Chhattisgarh.
“When the Government of India says 'no one died due to lack of oxygen during the second wave', they probably are referring to Chhattisgarh, a state with surplus oxygen.
“Still, keeping an open mind about any unnoticed or isolated event, we are exploring options to conduct an audit to track any such incident in Chhattisgarh,” he said.
Transparency is the core of a democratically elected government, he added.
He urged the civil society and journalists in Chhattisgarh to bring any such event to the government's notice.
“We are expanding our public audit to get all information on any death in hospitals or outside due to lack of oxygen during the second wave of Covid," he said.
He demanded a similar step from the Centre. “We urge the Government of India to conduct a similar audit to get on record such occurrences and develop a robust plan to avoid any future tragedies."
