Chhattisgarh has set an example for cow protection, promotion and service, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Tuesday.

As the cow is called as ‘Kamdhenu’, the Godhan Nyay Yojana is now known as ‘Kamdhenu Yojana’. Thus, a simple scheme is bringing extraordinary benefits and happiness, he said.

The Chief Minister spoke after transfering payment for cow dung procurement to the cattle farmers, Gauthan committees and self-help groups, an official communication said. An amount of Rs 5.24 crores was transferred.

He said it is not just a scheme to procure cow dung and sell it as a manure but one to empower women, develop entrepreneurship, increase farmers’ income, hike productivity, reduce farm input cost, develop livestock and end open grazing.

The other goals achieved are crop protection and increase in milk production, he added.

The Chief Minister said so far 51.27 lakh quintals of cow dung have been procured and Rs 102.54 crores have been paid.

A total of 6.11 lakh quintals of vermi compost and 166,370 quintals of super compost have been sold.
