Delhi’s air on Saturday continued to remain in the very poor category, System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), said.
The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) on the National Ambient Air Quality Index (NAAQI) was 342 micrograms per cubic.
According to the short range weather forecast, SAFAR said, for the next three days, winds are likely to be low reducing ventilation leading to degradation of air quality but within the same category. “From December 7 onwards winds are expected to increase dispersing pollutants but AQI is likely to remain in ‘very poor’ category. Partly cloudy sky and low mixing layer height are preventing efficient dispersion of pollutants,” it said.
As per the SAFAR, the PM 10 levels were recorded at 248 in the ‘moderate’ category and PM 2.5 levels were recorded at 148 in the ‘very poor’ category. The air quality in Noida has improved from the ‘hazardous’to the ‘very poor’ category. The overall AQI in Noida stood at 331. Meanwhile, the air quality in Gurugram was at the upper end of ‘severe’ category at 480.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
