Cases of thefts on rise

Monday, 11 January 2021 | PNS | Jamshedpur

With cases of thefts and burglaries becoming a regular affair in the city, a delegation of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce met SSP M Tamil Vanan and demanded an increase in night vigil. The delegation led by president Ashok Bhalotia demanded an increase in police patrolling.

On Thursday only, the thieves had stolen 11 lakh 84 thousand from the jaggery shop of Parsudih Bazar Samiti and two lakh cash stolen from the galley by breaking the lock of Mango Dimna Road Bishnu Bhandar.

The theft activity was captured in CCTV cameras installed in shops. The shopkeepers also made the footage available to the police. Despite this, the hands of the police are still empty. Meanwhile, a theft took place in Sidhgora. The thieves carried out the incident by cutting the shop shed.

In yet another case of theft in the city, unknown criminals decamped with cameras and cash worth over Rs 2 lakh from a photo studio at Baridih Market under Sidhgora police station area in the wee hours on Saturday.

Owner of the studio, Dibakar Kumar was shocked to see the asbestos roof of the shop broken apart.  On inspecting the shop, he found three cameras, including two video cameras were missing and also missing was Rs 12,000 that Kumar had kept in the cash-box.

OC, Sidhgora police station Manoj Thakur confirmed the burglary at a photo studio in Baridih Market in the night.

The OC, Sidhgora police station who had also gone to the spot and inspected the crime scene said they are trying to establish clues to the criminals by taking footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the marketplace.

Incidents of theft, burglary and snatching are on the rise in the steel city. On Friday night at about 9 pm, three bike-borne criminals snatched a smartphone from a 40-year-old man at Bistupur, but fortunately all the three criminals were nabbed and the snatched gadget recovered due to the alacrity of a section of the local residents.

Despite efforts, cases of thefts and burglaries have become a regular affair in the city. In the last 48 hours alone several cases of stealing and shoplifting have been reported in the city.

Though shopping malls, complexes and showrooms have beefed up security arrangements at their premises but still cases of thefts are on rise. The authorities of complexes have also appointed extra security personnel and night guards as a part of preventive measures but thieves are on the prowl.

It may be noted that incidents of thefts, burglary, loot and snatching have increased in the last few months. Only in December, about 20 cases of theft and burglary were reported in and around the city. While in January about 10 cases have been reported.
