The Women Doctors’ Wing of IMA Jharkhand, led by its Chairperson Dr Bharti Kashyap, in collaboration with the Health Department, Government of Jharkhand has vowed to make the State cervical cancer free by the end of year 2022. For the purpose a series of camps have been lined up for detection, treatment and spreading awareness on the terminal disease.

Although, multiple events ,such as holding  camps to train gynaecologists working in state run hospitals on cervical cancer screening and cryo treatment; screening of women at government hospitals for cervical cancer, providing equipment to Sadar hospitals for screening and treatment of the disease were being carried out by the Women Doctors’ Wing IMA Jharkhand since 2015, the ambit of the fight against Cervical Cancer was expanded in early 2021 to lobby and encourage the State Health department to formulate a policy of mandatory screening of six percent  women in the reproductive age group having symptoms or from high risk category at all State run Sadar Hospitals in the districts by , framing  monthly and annual cervical cancer screening  and  ensure that Jharkhand becomes the first cervical cancer free State in the country by the end of  year 2022.

Chairperson WDW IMA Dr. Bharti Kashyap said that around 6 per cent women in the reproductive age group, are found to be suffering from inflammation - considered to be precursor of cervical cancer. WDW representations to the State Health Department highlighted this single source  of cervical cancer and urged authorities and the State health minister to target this high risk group to get to the root of the problem.

With active support from the State Health Minister, the State health department has now fixed an annual target of screening six percent that is  2,70,000 women in the reproductive age group and a monthly target of 22,556 for all the Sadar Hospitals in Jharkhand.. A campaign, the first of its kind in the country, to ensure a Cervical Cancer Free Jharkhand, is underway and it is expected that given the present pace of screening of women in the reproductive age group, Jharkhand would become the first Cervical Cancer Free State by December 2022.

The Women Doctors’ Wing, IMA Jharkhand is on its mission for screening of six per cent of women in the reproductive age group suffering from pelvic inflammatory disease, the category most liable for development of cervical cancer in future
