Chandigarh admn gears up for vaccine drive today

The Chandigarh Administration has geared up for the national launch of Covid-19 vaccine by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16.

“Chandigarh has received 12,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine on January 12 and vaccines have been scientifically preserved in the District Vaccination Store in GMSH-Sector 16. With the present stock, initially 5,400 persons can be vaccinated,” said Dr Amandeep Kang, Chandigarh Director Health Services.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore on Friday reviewed the preparations for the launch of Covid-19 vaccine in the city.

The DHS informed that the Central Government has approved the operation of four Centres for vaccination, one in Sector 16 Hospital, two in GMCH, Sector 32 and one in Sector 48 Hospital in the city.

The list of beneficiaries is ready and all staff has been trained for giving the doses as per the protocol. An Adverse Effects Committee has been constituted and four separate beds have been reserved for any eventuality. An exclusive helpdesk no.1075 has been set up, which will be attended by four doctors, Dr Kang said.

 She said that a dedicated ambulance has been reserved for any eventuality. There will be a two way link with the Government of India for on-time monitoring, she added. 

Notably, a total of 8,830 healthcare workers including private healthcare providers have been registered in Chandigarh, which are to be administered vaccination in the first phase.

A data of around 10,500 frontline workers of Municipal Corporation has also been compiled for vaccination in the second phase. Other frontline workers include Police, Civil Defence, Revenue and Disaster Management.

During the meeting, the UT Administrator directed the Health Department to provide 1,000 doses to PGIMER immediately out of the stock received for Chandigarh.

He also directed Municipal Corporation to keep ready the list of persons, who will be vaccinated in the second round.

Meanwhile, The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research will also launch the Covid-19 vaccine on January 16. Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER will formally inaugurate  the vaccination drive at Advanced Paediatric Center (APC) at 11.15 am on Saturday.

CHANDIGARH TO PARTIALLY OPEN SCHOOLS FROM NEXT MONTH

The Chandigarh Administration on Friday decided to partially open Government schools from next month.

During the meeting held under Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, it was decided that the classes in various government schools from 6th to 8th class will be opened from February 1. The students can physically attend the classes with the permission of their parents, as per the protocol and guidelines issued by Central Government.

The Administrator also directed the Home Department to call Administrator Advisory Council’s meeting in the first week of February to discuss various developmental issues of the city. It was informed that 38,206 challans have been issued against the people violating Covid guidelines in the city.
