Chandigarh receives 12,000 doses of Covishield vaccine

The Chandigarh Administration has received 12000 doses of Covishield vaccine, a drive for which is scheduled to begin from January 16 across the country.

A total of 8,830 healthcare workers including private healthcare providers have been registered in Chandigarh, which are to be administered vaccination in the first phase.

A data of around 10,500 frontline workers of Municipal Corporation has also been compiled for vaccination in the second phase.  Other frontline workers include Police, Civil Defence, Revenue and Disaster Management. An official spokesman said that the stock of vaccine was received by Dr VK Nagpal , Medical Superintendent cum Joint Director at the Chandigarh Airport. The vaccine was transported in a dedicated Vaccine Van duly escorted by the Police Vehicle. The vaccine vials have been kept in the walk in cooler where temperature of 2 to 8 degree would be maintained. The storage area with walk in cooler room under CCTV surveillance would be guarded by security personnel round the clock, the spokesman said.

The vaccination drive will begin on January 16 in the city, he added.

1 DEATH, 36 FRESH CASES IN CHANDIGARH

The union territory of Chandigarh on Tuesday reported one more COVID-19 related death as 36 fresh positive cases surfaced.  “With this, the total case tally reached 20378 and the death toll stood at 328 in the city,” as per the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin. As per the bulletin, there were 270 active cases till the evening.  24 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours pushing the total number of recoveries to 19780.  Among 36 fresh cases, 22 were males and 14 were females. A maximum of four positive cases were detected in Manimajra.1.94 lakh samples have so far been tested in the city.
