Chandigarh on Tuesday reported 22 cases of Covid-19, taking the infection tally to 61,467 even as no death was reported in the city for the third consecutive day since March 31, a milestone that the city had been looking forward to after a deadly second wave of the pandemic.
The number of active cases in the Union Territory dropped to 278. With 56 patients being discharged following recovery, the number of cured people reached 60,383. A total of 554,164 samples have been taken for testing so far.
Following the reduction in new cases, Chandigarh administration reduced night curfew by an hour and extended shop timings till 8 pm. According to new guidelines, the night curfew in the city will be from 11 pm to 5 am. All shops will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm. All restaurants/bars can remain open with 50 per cent capacity from 10 am to 10.30 pm. The number of persons permitted for marriages or funeral and any social gatherings are enhanced from 30 to 50 persons. Boating in Sukhna lake has been permitted with 50 per cent capacity.
Meanwhile, UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore directed the director of Chandigarh Health Services to form a vaccination team to administer the doses at home for those senior citizens who cannot move to vaccination centres, as they are bed ridden or suffering from acute illness.
