Cheema: Capt unhappy with Mann raising slogans against agri laws in LS in front of Modi

Monday, 11 January 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

Commenting on a statement made by Capt Amarinder Singh on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and MP Bhagwant Mann; senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab Legislative Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday, said that Captain was unhappy as MP Bhagwant Mann had raised slogans in Lok Sabha in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, against blacks laws in favour of farmers.

Cheema said that Capt Amarinder Singh believes that Bhagwant Mann should not have raised slogans against Narendra Modi, when his own Congress MPs could remain silent on the issue. Cheema said it was strange that AAP state president Bhagwant Mann had raised his voice in favor of farmers against the Modi-led central government, but the heat was felt by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party had been opposing the anti-farmers black laws passed by the Modi government from day one, whereas the Captain-led Congress government had agreed in the High Power Committee in favor of the black laws.

“That is why he is making such remarks now. Capt Amarinder Singh who lied to Bhagwant Mann, should himself tell as to why he deceived the farmers of Punjab for three months stating that black laws were not enforced in Punjab. Captain Sahib is still lying, while his own minister in his government, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, has admitted that black laws have been enacted in Punjab,” said Cheema.

He said that minister Ashu had clarified that the paddy crop was procured under the centre’s new black laws and the forthcoming wheat crop would also be procured under these laws.

“The farmers struggling on the border of Delhi had high hopes that Captain Amarinder Singh would meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on their issue, but he met Shah on the issue of internal security. Captain Amarinder should tell the people of Punjab that he instead did a deal by meeting Shah, in exchange for his son’s ED cases,” said Cheema.

He said that it was unfortunate that the Chief Minister of an ‘agriculture-oriented’ state had sold his farmers to Prime Minister Modi for infatuation of his son. “Every child of the country in his own way, would like to hear the speech of MP Bhagwant Mann on issues raised in the Lok Sabha, but would Captain Sahib name any of his MPs who have spoken on public issues in the Lok Sabha,” he added.

Cheema said that it was also a pity to Capt Amarinder Singh that now the children of common households like Bhagwant Mann have become leaders and speak for the rights of the people.

He said Captain was also threatened that his monarchy would gradually fall into the hands of the common man and the monarchy established by the princely states would come to an end.

“For the last one and a half months, farmers of Punjab have been struggling in severe cold on the borders of Delhi. More than 50 farmers have been martyred, but Capt Amarinder Singh is still saying that when the time would be right, he will seek legal opinion against the central laws. Will Captain Sahib tell me when that time would come,” he added.
