Chhattisgarh to have Help Desk for ‘Omicron’

Wednesday, 01 December 2021 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Help Desks will be established at all the three airports of Chhattisgarh -- Raipur, Bilaspur and Jagdalpur -- as per the guidelines of the Central government for screening Covid-19, especially the new variant of South Africa ‘Omicron’.

Chhattisgarh's Health and Family Welfare Department said this on Tuesday. The Help Desks will seek information from persons arriving from foreign countries, information on Covid-19 test, vaccination, quarantine and Corona symptoms.

This is part of the monitoring and extensive precautions in view of the new variant of the corona virus Omicron found in South Africa, an official communication said.

Persons who have not completed a seven-day quarantine period after coming to India will be asked to ensure a seven-day home-quarantine.

On the eighth day, they will undergo real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test. If the test comes positive, the sample will be sent for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).

Apart from it, the Department called for all the districts to hike the number of Covid-19 tests as part of prevention and quick detection of any new variants. All the districts have been asked to ensure corona testing as per the set target.

For identification and monitoring of new variants, at least 5 percent of the samples which are positive in the RT-PCR test on a daily basis in each district, have to be sent for WGS.
