Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday decided to set up 34 child-friendly police stations in the State. As the State has 34 police districts, Patnaik directed the administration to set up one child-friendly police station in each police district.
The CM felt the need for providing assistance to children who are coming to the police stations and ensuring a conducive environment in the police stations for them.
All police stations would have special facilities for children. The stations would have special logos and plaques as well as tiny libraries for children. The libraries would have child-friendly magazines, newspapers and books.
There would be provisions of beds, chairs and tables besides plaques bearing Do’s and Don’ts both for police personnel and children. There would also be information boards on children's rights, special signboards bearing names and contact numbers of the Child Welfare Officer. In addition to these, toys for children, first aid kits would also be provided. There would be beautiful murals on the walls to create a child-friendly environment in the police station premises as well as a variety of educational topics.
The CM hoped that the new environment would help alleviate the stress of children who go to the police
stations.
