CLP leader targets UP govt on law and order

Friday, 26 November 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ targeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the law and order front, claiming that the Bharatiya Janata Party government had failed to check crime, especially those against women and children.

Aradhana Mishra alleged that the gang-rape of a girl in a moving car in Mathura indicated that the members of fairer sex were victims of lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh and law enforcing agencies had failed to check such heinous crimes.

“The `Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign of the ruling party has turned out to be another propaganda of the BJP government and no concrete steps have been taken to fulfill it. Heinous crimes are increasing by the day across the state and not a single day goes by when a girl or woman is not subjected to rape, torture or crimes of any form. The incident of rape of a young girl coming back after taking the examination of UP Police sub-inspector in Kosinkalan area of Mathura is a black spot on the face of the BJP government. This horrendous incident is a clear pointer that it is not safe to walk on the streets during the day across the state,” the Congress leader charged.

“On one hand, Yogi Adityanath has been promising security at 12 O'clock in the night, spreading false propaganda by calling the state number one, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah is searching for crime with binoculars but the truth is before everyone. Look at the figures of the police department. Due to the inaction of the BJP government, Uttar Pradesh has become number one in crime against women. Not a day goes by when women are sexually assaulted or similar incidents did not happen,” she alleged.

Mishra further said, “The government's intention is anti-women. In the aftermath of any heinous crime against women, the entire machinery is seen protecting the rapists and criminals. The result of protection of criminals in Uttar Pradesh is clear in the NCRB data. The state has leapfrogged to number one in the crime against women in India. As compared to 2020, crime records in Uttar Pradesh showed a 46 percent jump in 2021. But all these figures are not visible to the chief minister and Union home minister."

“Be it the Kuldeep Sengar case of Unnao, or the Chinmayanand case of Shahjahanpur and the burning of a gang-rape victim in Hathras by pouring petrol, in all the government stood with the rapists. On one hand the BJP talks of beti bachao but on the other hand women's sari is pulled during the panchayat elections and no action is taken against criminals,” the Congress leader added.

Mishra further claimed, “Uttar Pradesh under Yogi rule tops in the number of incidents related to sexual offences against children. As per latest report by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), Uttar Pradesh tops in sexual offences falling under Prevention of Child from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The NCRB data clearly points the truth to Shah's claim that a girl can move around in the middle of the night wearing jewellery or Yogi’s high-decibel claim of ‘bhay mukt samaj’ (fear-free society).”
