Maintaining the stance against corruption, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has directed the personnel and vigilance department to take action in the case of medicine purchase scam in health sub centres and a fake canal construction which took place about 15 years ago in Bhimtal area.

According to officials, in the purchase of medicines in health sub centres, the kit A, kit B and Asha kit purchased with the funds provided by the Central government could not be fully used. Due to this, the medicines remained in the drug warehouse in Roorkee past their expiry date. On the submission of the personnel and vigilance department, the chief minister has approved a departmental inquiry with the instruction to recover the cost as per the rules from the employees found responsible.

In the second case pertaining to the minor irrigation department, misappropriation was made in the fund allocated by the government for construction of irrigation canals from 2002-03 to 2006-07. The justice BC Kandpal inquiry commission undertook a probe into the misappropriation of fund without construction of the canals with no work being undertaken on the ground. On the basis of the minor irrigation superintending engineer’s inspection report and inquiry report along with recommendations provided by the vigilance establishment regarding such actions in Bhimtal area of Nainital district, the chief minister has approved departmental action against three departmental officials who are now retired. These officials include the then additional engineer Kamlesh Bhatt who retired in 2017, the then assistant engineer Suresh Chandra who retired in 2020 and the then executive engineer Paramjit Singh Bagga who has also retired.
