To further strengthen the safety mechanism for girls and women, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the second phase of the ongoing Safe City project on Monday on the occasion of International Women's Day.
The event will be held at the Indira Gandhi Foundation in Gomti Nagar.
For the Lucknow Safe City project, Rs 194 crore has been approved with 60 per cent and 40 per cent shares of the Centre and the state government, respectively.
For the safety and dignity of women, Safe City project was launched in eight metros of the country, including Lucknow. Under the Safe City project in Lucknow, 100 pink booths are to be constructed for women safety in various areas of the city in the first phase. Out of this, 70 pink booths have been completed.
At the same time, 100 two-wheeler pink petrol and 10 four-wheeler pink petrol vehicles have been given to women policemen for the safety of women and girls. These pink patrols are constantly patrolling around the girls schools, colleges and markets.
Besides, pink toilets with special facilities are being constructed at 74 places in the city for women. Out of these, 18 pink toilets are ready.
Under the Safe City project, lights are being installed at the identified dark spots in the city. So far, 3,625 dark spots have been identified and out of these, lights have been installed at 660 places while 2,965 other spots will be taken up by the end of March. This will curb crimes against women at night.
