Shimla/Chandigarh:Cold weather conditions persisted in most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Monday.Haryana’s Narnaul was the coldest place with a minimum temperature of four degrees Celsius, a notch below normal.A thick blanket of fog enveloped several cities, including Chandigarh, Ambala, Hisar, Sirsa and Patiala, in the morning.Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, recorded its low at 9.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, as per Chandigarh Meteorological Department.Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded minimum temperatures of 7.2, 7.9 and 8 degrees Celsius respectively, up to four notches above normal.
In neighbouring Haryana, the minimum temperatures of Ambala, Hisar and Karnal were 7.5, 5.2 and 6.8 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperatures of Rohtak, Bhiwani and Sirsa settled at 7.4, 7.4 and 5.9 degrees Celsius respectively.
The Met Department has forecast severe cold conditions in parts of two states on January 12 and 13.
Meanwhile, in the neighbouring hill state of Himachal Pradesh, Keylong and Kalpa reeled under sub-zero temperature.
Keylong, the administrative centre of tribal Lahaul and Spiti district, continued to be the coldest place in the state at minus 10.3 degrees Celsius. Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Manali, Dalhousie and Kufri was recorded at 0.6, 4.3 and 4.7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The state’s capital- Shimla registered a low of 7 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Solan at 24.5 degrees Celsius.
The Shimla Met Centre has forecast dense fog in plains and low hills of the state for Tuesday.
