Sunday, 13 June 2021 | Staff Reporter | RAIPUR

Terming the Silger killings of tribals as unfortunate, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday said his government is committed to protecting the interests of the tribal community.

Baghel was virtually interacting with villagers, public representatives and community leaders of Bijapur and Sukma districts from his official residence-cum-office here, stated an official communication. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on a crowd of tribals protesting against a CRPF camp at Silger in Bijapur on May 17, killing three men instantly. A woman who was wounded reportedly succumbed to her injuries later. Baghel said the Silger incident was "unfortunate". He said the government wants the truth to come to the fore. When facts emerge, the state will not hesitate to take action against the guilty, he said. On the demand of Jagargunda villagers, he announced a 30-bed hospital. He approved a siltation filtration structure and solar dual pump establishment worth Rs 5 crores for 10 villages affected by red water in Gangloor area of Bijapur. This will provide pure drinking water to 6,000 families, he said. He approved 16 development works for Sukma district at a cost of Rs 11.2 crores and 87 works for Rs 27.6 crores for Bijapur.
