To help the poor and daily wagers, the state government is providing food to more than one lakh people of the state through 263 community kitchens set up across the state.
“Thousands of food packets are being delivered free to people daily through these government community kitchens set up in 67 districts. Private institutions are also becoming partners in this campaign,” a government spokesman said.
Under this initiative, free food is being provided to the needy and poor during partial curfew. The objective is that no poor, labourer and hawker should go hungry during this trying time. The responsibility of operating community kitchens was being monitored by Agriculture Production Commissioner.
As per government data released on May 11, food packets were being made available to 1.01 lakh needy people in the state through 263 government community kitchens and more than 60 private institutions.
“The chief minister has instructed officials for immediate action in eight districts of the state where community kitchen scheme has not started,” he said. Community kitchens are also being run by the government in Covid hospitals being set up in various districts.
“In the fight against Covid, the government’s focus is both in urban and rural areas. In such a situation, instructions have been given to make proper arrangements for food, drinking water, sanitation and security in quarantine centres in rural areas,” the official said.
