Thursday, 16 September 2021 | PNS | CUTTACK

Several organisations on Wednesday held demonstrations in Cuttack to protest against the State Government’s decision to restrict the height of idols to four feet during the upcoming puja festivities.

Members of the city Congress and Hindu Jagaran Manch staged demonstrations at different places demanding lifting the cap on idol height and closed door worship of Goddess Durga. The Congress members led by local MLA Mohammed Moquim staged a silence protest in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Purighat demanding that the Government change its decision on various restrictions imposed on Duga Puja.“All the people of Cuttack have an emotional attachment with Durga Puja. The Government should respect the feelings and lift the unnecessary restrictions. People should be allowed to participate in the puja freely amid Covid restrictions,” said Moquim. He also lashed out at the BJD leaders for their double standards on the guidelines issued by the Government.“Many leaders of the ruling BJD have differences of opinion on the guidelines during Puja. While they are criticising each other on this matter, a clear picture should come out soon and people should be allowed to celebrate the festival amid Covid guidelines,” Moquim said.

Members of the Hindu Jagaran Manch also staged a protest in front of the Cuttack Collectorate demanding lifting of the restrictions.
