The Congress on Thursday backed Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's demand to slash the present age of 45 plus to 18 years for vaccination in states most affected by the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
The Pradesh Congress Committee said the Central government should extend support to the states. It is time to fight the pandemic jointly.
In a statement, PCC Communication Chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said the most affected states need Central assistance, even for vaccination.
Just like the Centre steps in during natural calamities like floods or earthquakes, similar assistance is required by the states with highest Covid cases, the party said.
Commenting on Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan's tweet, Trivedi said the state's BJP leaders and Central government were acting in a partisan way vis-a-vis Chhattisgarh.
Dr Harsh Varhan on Thursday said: “Hue and cry by certain states about partisanship by the Union government is a farce, an attempt to hide their own incompetence. Maharashtra and Rajasthan are two of the top three states based on allocation of Covid-19 vaccine doses. Both are non-BJP governed states.”
