The Congress brass was left red-faced after a video of its recently-appointed Bulandshahr district unit chief Kunwar Tauqeer Ali abusing party president Sonia Gandhi surfaced.Ali was made Bulandshahr City Congress Committee chief on January 8.
Subsequently, UP Congress Committee chief Ajay Kumar Lallu revoked Ali’s appointment after the video went viral on social media. Ali had later apologised but the Congress brass did not respond to it. Ali clarified that the video was around five to six years old and was taken when he was not associated with the party and its ideology.
Meanwhile in another embarrassment, a turncoat MLA from Congress in Rae Bareli, Rakesh Singh on Wednesday feted the man who threw ink at Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti a few days back and presented him with a cash reward for giving a ‘befitting reply’ to Bharti.
“UP mein unki (Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath) pooja ki jaati hai. Log unko bhagwan se kam maante nahi hain. Ek sant ke roop mein woh mukhya mantri ka karya karte hain. Isse zyada imandaar aur karmath mukhyamantri na hua hai aur na hoga. Main chahta hoon ki kathortam karyawahi ho iske khilaaf (People worship him in Uttar Pradesh. They see him as a God. He works for the betterment of people like a seer. What more do you want from an honest CM? I demand strictest action against Somnath Bharti),” Singh said.
Interestingly, the Congress MLA-turned-Yogi loyalist is the younger brother of Dinesh Singh, who had switched camps to the BJP in 2017 after years of allegiance to Sonia Gandhi.
Bharti waded into controversy after making distasteful comments against Yogi Adityanath and made derogatory remarks against him last week.
Amethi police later arrested Bharti on Monday morning on the basis of a complaint filed by BJP worker Somnath Sahu over the alleged remarks made last week.
