UT Adviser Dharam Pal on Tuesday inaugurated India's highest air purifier at Transport Light Point (TPT) on Madhya Marg at Sector 26. The air purification tower, which is capable of purifying the air in a radius of 500 meters around Transport Chowk, was installed by Pious Air Pvt Ltd, a Delhi based firm without any cost to Chandigarh Administration and they will also operate and maintain the same for five years without any cost, said an official.
The polluted air enters into the inner casing of Mist Chamber, wherein numbers of series of mist nozzles spray water in form of mist on the polluted air, so heavy polluted air particles are drained in the drain tube, which collects in the water tank. Purified air is exhausted in the environment.
A Water Sprinkler machine was also flagged off by the Adviser on the occasion. The sprinkler will be used to wash the roadside plants as well to suppress the dust along the roads. A bicycle rally of around 100 schools from Chandigarh's schools was also flagged off to raise awareness among the general public to curb air pollution and sensitise them to use bicycles as their local mode of conveyance.
