In view of the prevailing surge in the pandemic of Covid-19 in the state the higher education department of Uttarakhand has declared summer vacations in all the universities, colleges and aided government colleges of the state.
The vacation would be from May 7 to June 12. The state minister for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat endorsed the proposal of the department for the vacation. It is pertinent to mention here that the state government had closed all colleges and universities of the state on May 3 but had allowed the online classes.
In the last few days many teachers and employees of the higher education department had succumbed to the Covid-19. Apart from it, a large number of employees were said to be suffering from the disease.
Considering these issues the minister asked the department to declare summer vacations in all the institutes of higher education.
The order would also be applicable on the private universities and colleges. Rawat said that the safety of students, teachers and employees is the topmost priority of the state government and every possible effort to ensure this would be done.
He said that the studies would not get affected as the syllabus in most of the colleges has been completed.
The minister said that the order would be helpful in breaking the chain of Covid-19 in the state.
