Covid claims 180 lives in State on Sunday

The contagion of Covid -19 took 180 lives in Uttarakhand on Sunday. This is the highest number of deaths reported in a single day in the state. On May 6, the department had reported 151 deaths from the disease, a record which was shattered by the virus on Sunday. The death toll from the disease in the state now has mounted to 3,728 and the death rate is 1.53 percent.

In what can be termed as some respite, the authorities reported 5,890 new patients of the disease. The decrease in number can be attributed to less number of tests. On Saturday 39,310 tests were done and 8,690 cases were reported while on Sunday only 26,713 tests were done.

The state now has 2,44,273 (cumulative) patients of the disease. The authorities discharged 2,731 patients after recovery from the hospitals on Sunday. The cumulative count of recovered patients in the state has now increased to 1,61,634. The recovery rate in the state has plummeted to 66.17 percent while the sample positivity rate is 6.02 percent.

Out of the 180 deaths reported on Sunday, 29 were from  Kalindi hospital Dehradun, 22 from Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital,  Haldwani, 21 at Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital Dehradun, 14 at District hospital Bageshwar and 10 at Prayas hospital Khatima.

Similarly eight patients each died at HNB base hospital Srinagar, Military hospital Dehradun and Himalayan hospital Dehradun,  five patients at Sidhi Vinayak hospital Udham Singh Nagar and four each at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh and Kailash hospital Dehradun on Sunday.

Dehradun district which is among the worst affected districts of the country reported 2419 new cases of the disease on Sunday.  Udham Singh Nagar reported 919, Haridwar 733, Tehri 415, Pauri 272, Nainital 232, Chamoli 229, Uttarkashi 225, Pithoragarh 215, Almora 80, Champawat 73 and Bageshwar five new cases of the disease on Sunday.

The state now has 74,114 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 27,942 patients, Haridwar has 11,753, Nainital 6789, Udham Singh Nagar 6644, Pauri 4,473, Tehri 3,7396, Chamoli 2439, Champawat 2,210, Almora 1,878, Pithoragarh 1647, Uttarkashi 1,603, Rudraprayag 1534 and Bageshwar 1,466 active cases of the disease.  To contain the contagion of Covid-19, the state administration has set up 403 containment zones in different parts of the state.

 In the ongoing vaccination drive 22855 people were vaccinated in 458 sessions in different parts of the state. A total of 5,93652 people have so far been fully vaccinated in the state while 17,51,885 have been partially vaccinated.
