Covid resurgence gathers momentum in Uttarakhand

The prediction of the health experts about a massive surge in the cases of Covid-19 after the festival of Holi and with advent of Kumbh in Haridwar is proving to be right.  On Tuesday the state health department reported a staggering 791 cases of the disease which is the highest single day surge in the Covid cases in this year. On December 10 last year the state had 830 cases  and after that 791 is the highest single day case load in the state on Tuesday.  The department also reported death of seven patients of the disease on the day which increased the death toll in the state to 1736.

The authorities discharged 351 patients from different hospitals of the state following their recovery on Tuesday. A total of 103602 patients have recovered from the disease in the state and the recovery percentage is now at 93.29 and the sample positivity rate is 3.59 percent.

The authorities reported 303 new cases of the disease from Dehradun, 185 from Haridwar, 107 from Nainital, 75 from Tehri, 45 from Pithoragarh, 41 from Udham Singh Nagar, 11 from Bageshwar, seven from Uttarkashi, six from Almora, five from Rudraprayag, three from Chamoli, two from Champawat and one from Pauri on Tuesday.

The health department reported the death of three patients at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on Tuesday. One patient each succumbed to Covid 19 in Kailash hospital, Himalayan hospital, Synergy hospital Dehradun on the day. One patient was reported at Sushila Tiwari government hospital Haldwani on Tuesday.

The state now has 3607 active patients of the disease. Dehradun continues to be at the top of the table of active cases of the disease with 1446 patients, Haridwar has 1010, Nainital 344, Tehri 232, Udham Singh Nagar 130, Pauri 126, Almora 71, Pithoragarh 61, Uttarkashi 56, Bageshwar 54, Rudraprayag 36, Champawat 24 and Chamoli 17 active cases of Covid-19.

In the ongoing vaccination drive against the disease, 60214 people were vaccinated in different parts of the state on Tuesday which is the highest in a day. In the state 150186 people have been fully vaccinated so far as they have received both the first and second dose of the vaccine. The Chief Operations Officer (COO) of state Covid-19 control room, Dr Abhishek Tripathi said that 647 vaccine sessions were organised in different parts of the state on Tuesday. In Dehradun 119 vaccine sessions were organised in which 10945 persons above 45 years of age, 185 healthcare workers and 198 frontline workers were vaccinated on Monday. In Haridwar 140 sessions were organised on the day.
