Covid scare: CM Dhami cautions admin, people

In view of the increase in cases of Covid-19 in many parts of the world and reports of arrival of a new highly contagious variant of the virus, the Uttarakhand government has adopted a cautious approach. On Saturday the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the chief secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and the secretary of Health services to ensure that Covid appropriate behaviour is followed by everyone.

He also said that all arrangements for preventing the spread of the disease should be made. CM Dhami directed Health secretary Amit Singh Negi to ensure that all the hospitals have arrangements for effective control on the disease.

The CM has also appealed to the people of the state not to drop guard against the disease and follow all safety protocols. He said that the people who have not received the second dose of vaccine should do it on time. Dhami emphasised that everyone should wear masks and maintain necessary physical distance.

Meanwhile the state health department reported 14 new cases of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) and eight recoveries from the disease in Uttarakhand on Saturday. No death from the disease was reported in the state on the day.

The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,44,183 while a total of 3,30,466 patients have recovered from the disease so far. In the state, 7407 people have lost their lives to Covid -19 virus till date. The recovery percentage from the disease is at 96.01 per cent while the sample positivity rate on Saturday was 0.15 per cent.

The state health department reported ten new patients from Dehradun, two from Nainital and one each from Chamoli and Udham Singh Nagar on Saturday. No new case of Covid-19 was reported from the remaining nine districts on the day.

The state now has 150 active cases of Covid-19. Dehradun with 98 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Rudraprayag and Bageshwar have no active cases of the disease now. In the ongoing vaccination drive 60,159 people were administered doses in 977 sessions held on Saturday.
