In the wake of floods ravaging several villages in Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) asked the state government to start relief work on a war footing.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, CPI (ML) state secretary Sudhakar Yadav said that rivers in Lakhimpur Kheri and Pilibhit were overflowing due to heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and due to release of lakh of cusecs of water from Banbasa barrage and it had wreaked havoc in the area.
Expressing deep grief over the death of 10 persons after a boat capsized in river Ghaghara in Lakhimpur Kheri, Yadav criticised the government for the laxity in ongoing relief works He further said that the Rahul Nagar locality in Puranpur of Pilibhit had been submerged by the overflowing river Sharda.
“People have taken shelter on the roofs, crops have been destroyed and cattle have been swept away in the flood. Several of the villagers are stranded in their fields. The stranded villagers were yet to get any help from the government which has left them on the providence,” he charged.
