Crockery worth Rs 15L gutted in godown blaze

Crockery goods worth over Rs 15 lakh were gutted in fire after a major fire broke out at a godown in Old Categorised Market in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

The fire which broke out in the early morning hours was pacified by more than two dozen fire tender vehicles in more than four hours.

In-charge and on duty employee of fire brigade told that the fire broke at a godown near Minar weighbridge.  The fire was massive and was controlled before it would spread to other godowns and nearby houses.

The timely pacifying of fire help in saving adjacent godown of crockery goods owned by Deepak Tolani. The nearby and adjacent which godown and shops were much larger and had several times more goods at the time of the fire. The nearby houses were vacated to avert any untoward action.

The police were informed regarding the details of the incident and the owner of the godown has not reported the incident to the police.

Soon after the information of fire was received by Old Categorised Fire Brigade more than 20 vehicles were pressed into service to contain and control the fire. In the fire no injury or casualty was reported.

The owner had claimed that the loss was over Rs 15 lakh. The fire tenders have not provided any reason behind the fire. The fire could be short circuit borne or due to some other reason which would be investigated.
