A CRPF constable was among four people arrested in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district and 11 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 3.69 lakh were seized, the Excise Department announced on Saturday.
Bilaspur Deputy Excise Commissioner Neetu Notani said the four, including CRPF’s 65th Battalion constable Ganesh Kumar Jain as well as Manoj Khanna, Amit Yadav and Sarojani Bai Soni were taken into custody.
Acting on a tip, officials held Manoj for illegally transporting a carton of liquor on his two-wheeler from Nehru Nagar area in Bilaspur city.
He confessed he got liquor from Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal and supplied to high-profile clients in Bilaspur. He said that his next consignment of three cartoons of IMFL would arrive from Raipur.
After this, the excise officials nabbed the CRPF constable Ganesh and his accomplice Amit. The officials also seized three cartons of liquor, four travel bags and a car (CG-04, B-7535).
Notani said the CRPF constable, posted in the IGP's office, confessed that he crossed all checkposts and nakas on the way by presenting himself as a CRPF jawan.
Meanwhile, the excise officials seized seven cartons of liquor and arrested Sarojani from her house in connection with illicit liquor trade.
