The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Enforcement Squad on Thursday sealed a coaching centre in the city for allegedly violating Covid-19 guidelines.
The officials found students at the Mahindra coaching centre flouting the pandemic safety protocols during checks at its premises in the Arunodaya Market area.
Later, they sealed the centre and issued a show -cause notice to the institute’s authorities. Earlier this week, a private coaching centre at Jaydev Vihar in Bhubaneswar was sealed by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for allegedly violating Covid-19 norms.
Enforcement has been intensified in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar by the civic bodies following a surge in positive cases.
Meanwhile, the GIET University at Gunupur in Rayagada district has been closed for three days after detection of six Covid-19 cases on the campus.
The varsity would remain closed from April 8 to April 10 as per the direction of the Sub-Collector, said Registrar of the university.Students and employees of the university residing outside the campus would not be allowed to enter the premises during the period.Also, a girl student of Gangadhar Meher University in Sambalpur district has tested positive for the virus, reports said.
The girl, who is a hostel boarder, had on Tuesday night informed the warden about her illness. She was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where she tested positive for the virus.
The student has been sent to her home and is currently under isolation. The hostel matron and the student’s two roommates, who had taken her to the hospital, have also been placed under isolation.
The rooms and premises of the hostel have been sanitised while all precautionary measures are being taken by the university authorities to curb the spread of the virus on the campus.
