The state cyber cell has issued an advisory regarding latest modus operandi opted by cyber criminals for cheating money by using the information of internet banking app of the bank customers.
The miscreants deposit some amount as e-TDR and fix deposited from account by obtaining login ID and password by some means. This process does not require OTP. In this, a new FD account is created by deducting money from bank account and less amount of money is seen in the balance. The SMS related to the creation of FD is received on your mobile number which mentions the amount of the FD along with e-IDR / e-STDR.
And which upon reading, appears that the said amount has been withdrawn from your account. It is in this context that the fraudsters contact victim posing as bank employee and provide account details, which assures the victim that they are bankers. Then victim is told to stop the debit, process has to done and ask for the OTP on the registered mobile number, and as soon as OTP is shared, the balance is fraudulently withdrawn from account. In this regard, SBI has also issued an alert for customers.
Do not share information about Expiry Date and Date of Birth. Always read the message received from the bank properly, if you do not understand, go to any knowledgeable person or go to the bank and seek the help of the bank officials, because OTP is not required to make Fixed Deposit (TDR / STDR) of the account amount.
