Death toll at 68 while 136 people still missing

Even as search and relief operations are continuing in the disaster affected area of Chamoli district, the death toll from the disaster which took place on February 7 currently stands at 68 with 136 people still missing. According to the deputy inspector general (Law and Order) and Uttarakhand police chief spokesman, Nilesh Anand Bharne, while 204 persons were reported missing after the disaster, 68 bodies and 28 body parts have bee recovered so far from different locations. Thirty eight bodies and one body part have been identified so far. In order to ascertain the identity of the bodies, the DNA samples of 96 family members of the missing, 48 bodies and 25 body parts have been sent ot the forensic science laboratory in Dehradun till now.
