Political ambition of upcoming film star Deeksha Singh was shattered when she witnessed a humiliating defeat in the panchayat elections from the district. Deeksha, the first runner-up in the Femina-2015 contest, was a candidate for the post of district panchayat member from ward number 26.
Deeksha campaigned in a big way but could not woo the voters and just polled around 2,500 votes. She was defeated by BJP-supported Nagina Singh, who hails from the family of late BJP leader Rajmani Singh. Nagina Singh received more than 7,000 votes. Sanju Yadav was in second place with more than 5,000 votes.
Deeksha’s father Jitendra Singh, a native of Chittori village of Baksha block, has a business in Goa and the family stays there. Deeksha had come here to contest the panchayat polls to fulfill her political ambitions. In an interview during the campaigning, Deeksha had said that she considered PM Narendra Modi to be her ideal.
She had promised large-scale development of the area and had said that she would fight to make the post of the district panchayat chairman reserved for women. The voters, however, refused to take her words and she lost.
