The Delhi Government will start a food distribution programme for non-PDS beneficiaries in 280 wards. All underprivileged people who do not possess ration cards, including unorganised sector workers, migrant labourers, building and construction workers and domestic help are eligible to receive food grain under the Delhi Government’s scheme.
Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Imran Hussain will visit fair price shops (FPSs) regularly to take stock of the grain distribution. “In case FPSs are found closed during the prescribed working hours, strict action will be taken against not only the erring dealers but also against the FSI, FSO and AC concerned,” the Minister said after chairing a meeting with the officials.
Additional Commissioner (F&S), Joint Commissioner (F&S), CMD (DSCSC) and GM (DSCSC) have been asked to review distribution of ration free of cost to the beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act and PMGKAY for the months of May and June, a Delhi Government official said.
Hussain also reviewed the progress of distribution of free food grain to Non- PDS beneficiaries in all the 280 wards through select schools of the Directorate of Education and Municipal Authorities. It may be noted that the Delhi Cabinet has already taken a decision to provide free ration to non-PDS beneficiaries in view of the lockdown imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
