Stating that many businessmen in Dehradun city have failed to register their business under Goods and Service Tax (GST) despite having an annual turnover of over Rs 20 lakh, the tax department warned to take action against such businessmen. In a meeting with the representatives of Doon Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DUVM) in GST office of Dehradun on Wednesday, joint commissioner of Dehradun division of tax department, Rakesh Verma said that many businessmen in the marketplaces like Paltan Bazaar and Tibetan Market earn over Rs 20 lakh per year but have not registered for GST as per the government rules.

He asked the association members to make such businessmen aware of GST regulations and encourage them to register for GST or else, the department will have to take action against such establishments soon.

Talking about this, the president of the association, Vipin Nagalia said that the department has strictly warned them of taking serious measures against such local businessmen who will not register for GST despite the warning. According to him, the association has appealed to all the businessmen that earn over Rs 20 lakh annually to register their business under GST in order to stay safe from any possible action taken by the tax department in future. The department has also asked the businessmen to mandatorily display their respective GST numbers in their shops as well as on the boards outside the shops, informed Nagalia.

Besides this, he also informed that the department has assured the association to organise a camp for the spot registration of GST in one of the main marketplaces for local businessmen.
