Saturday, 12 June 2021 | Staff Reporter | SUKMA

Eight Naxalites, one of them carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head, have surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, the police said on Friday.

Sukma Superintendent of Police K.L. Dhruv said the Maoists, including a couple, were impressed by the police rehabilitation drive and disappointed with the Maoist ideology.

Of the eight, Vanjam Bheema, who carried a bounty of Rs 2 lakh, was a member of Platoon number 4 in Section B in the outlawed Maoist outfit. His wife Madavi Kalawati was a member of the Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM), Dhruv said. The six others who surrendered were Ravi, Kosa, Deva, Dirdo Ganga, Sodi Dula and Kawasi Deva. Kawasi Deva surrendered with a muzzle-loading gun.
