Elderly, medically unwell, Divyangs to get ration at home from PDS shops

Monday, 18 January 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Helpless, elderly, medically unwell and Divyang people will no longer have to go to the government ration shops to get ration as the Yogi Adityanath government has now made arrangements to provide rations at their homes.

A special initiative has been launched in UP, the first state in the country to do so, for people who hold a ration card but cannot go to the fair price shops for various reasons.

Under the initiative, the operators of the government ration shops will go to the homes of such card holders and deliver the ration.

The officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department and the district administrative officers will monitor the entire scheme.

The scheme has been started in many districts of the state and as many as 8,577 people have been identified in the state and ration is being provided to them at their houses.

Along with this, a campaign is also going on to identify such people and connect them with the scheme.

The shop operators will also be regularly interacting with the beneficiaries so that they can provide help in case of any requirement.

After taking charge of the state in 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had taken a pledge to make the public distribution system free of corruption and make it the biggest ally of the poor, labourers and the needy.

In the past four years, the system has been made online and completely transparent. Under this, facilities like supply chain management system, online ration card management system, and data digitisation of fair price shops have been implemented.
