The Chhattisgarh government has decided to establish electric funeral houses in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Bhilai and Risali cities, it was announced on Sunday.
The decision was taken after delays in cremation of Covid patients were reported from cremation grounds in various cities.
Videos of bodies waiting for the last rites were widely shared on WhatsApp and other social media sites.
The Urban Administration department has been told to set up the electric funeral houses in the six cities, a press release said.
The department has provided a special permission for floating a seven-day short term tender/expression of interest for setting up the funeral houses.
Officials have been told complete the work soon.
