Elephants force ban on tourism in Gangrel area

Saturday, 20 February 2021 | Staff Reporter | DHAMTARI

The sighting of a herd of wild elephants forced authorities to impose on Friday a ban on tourism activities around the Pt Ravishankar Shukla Reservoir area (Gangrel dam) in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district.

Dhamtari Collector and District Magistrate Jai Prakash Maurya issued the order.

The Collector said that the elephants had been noticed in recent days. Therefore, tourism activity around the Gangrel Tourism Centre and the Angamoti temple premises as well as water sports have been banned with immediate effect.

The order, however, made it clear that those who had booked the Bardiha and other resorts will be allowed to come. Tourists arriving   without booking will remain  within the resort, motel or hotel until further orders.

The order asked officials to also alert villagers living in the vicinity.
