The campaign for energy conservation should not be limited to seminars. Through activities like debate competitions in schools and colleges, awareness on energy conservation should be raised among the youngsters. Traditional agricultural practices and systems for energy conservation should be preserved and encouraged. Stating this, the governor Baby Rani Maurya appealed to the people of Uttarakhand to use a cycle for commuting at least once in a week. The Governor was speaking as the chief guest at Saksham-2021 oil and gas conservation campaign organised by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and oil companies at the Raj Bhawan auditorium here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that petroleum products have an important role in the nation’s economic development and progress. The nation has to import 85 per cent of the total petroleum requirement from abroad. The conservation of petroleum is also necessary for decreasing the dependence on import. The governor stressed on the need for encouraging the use of renewable sources of energy like solar, wind and hydro power. She said that the use of green energy will also help in addressing issues like environmental conservation and climate change.

Taking collective responsibility, all people, industries, organisations and governments should maximise the use of alternative green energy. The use of solar energy should be encouraged wherever possible at homes, offices and industries, added the governor.

The oil industry Uttarakhand state level coordinator Neeraj Kansal said that it is a collective responsibility to make the energy conservation campaign a success. Green and clean energy should be accorded priority, he added. Additional secretary Sushil Kumar, representatives of various oil companies among others were present on the occasion along with more than 300 participants who attended the even virtually.
