ESL inaugurates Solar powered drinking water facilities for villagers

Thursday, 14 January 2021 | PNS | Bokaro

ESL Steel Limited, a Vedanta Group Company, has inaugurated Solar Operated Water Structures in its periphery villages aiming to provide clean potable water to the villagers. The water systems were inaugurated in Siyaljori, Chandaha, Bhagabandh, and Usardih villages, informed ESL Public Relations Official.

Additionally, we have also excavated two ponds in Siyaljori and Budhibinor; with this initiative, the company has touched the lives of more than 9,000 people, he said.

Speaking on occasion, Pankaj Malhan, CEO, ESL Steel Limited said, every person on earth needs water to survive. Now we have over 9,000 beneficiaries who are now getting free access to clean drinking water and becoming risk-free from various diseases caused by contaminated water.

“I cannot be prouder of ESL that always puts community first and actively participates in community development,” added Malhan.

ESL aims to make water available to all villagers in the area through this project. The villagers had to travel long distances or depend upon hand pumps for their water needs earlier.

The solar operated water structures will ensure that clean and contamination-free water is available to the villagers from taps in a hygienic way. This will be a big convenience for all villagers, especially the women in the villages around Bokaro district.

Till now ESL has installed 10 Solar operated Water Structures in and around CSR Operational areas. Of these three solar water structures have been installed in Siyaljori panchayat. The company plans to install more such systems and excavate more ponds in the neighbouring villages, in a phased manner in the coming months, said CEO.

The solar water structures in our village by ESL will help villagers make their lives better, said Nemchand Mahato, JMM leader Siyaljori.

Earlier, they used to get water from hand pumps but now after these structures have been installed; they are getting water directly from the tap. More such systems are needed to solve the water problem in the area. “ESL is doing very good work in this regard,” he added.
