Farmers' leader hit out at Hry CM for blaming farmers for spread of Covid in villages

Saturday, 15 May 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

A day after Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar claimed that farmers' movements to and from dharna sites led to spread of COVID-19 infection in the villages, Haryana BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni on Friday hit out at the Chief Minister saying that it is an attempt to defame the farming community.

“The State Government is conspiring to defame the agitating farmers in the garb of COVID-19 infection. They (government) did the same with Tablighi jamaat last year,” said Chaduni in a video message.

He claimed that the spread of infection in rural areas is due to movement of people from Delhi, Gurugram and other metro cities. People working in metro cities came back to villages and this led to spread of infection there... Farmers should not be blamed for this, he added.

Chaduni said that the farmers have been protesting in Kundli village since a long time but not a single death has occurred there due to COVID-19.
