Haryana Police has arrested five Covid-19 positive prisoners, who had escaped from special sections of Rewari Jail on the intervening night of May 8 and 9.
A total of 13 prisoners had escaped from Rewari's dedicated facility for Covid-19 positive inmates in the state.
A spokesperson of Haryana Police said that those arrested were identified as Naveen Sharma alias Golu, Ajit alias Neta, Rajesh alias Kalia, Ashish and Abhishek.
Immediately after the incident, several teams of the Haryana Police including CIA and nearby SHOs had launched a search operation to nab the criminals. Police have managed to nab 5 prisoners. Efforts are on to nab the other inmates, he added.
All were lodged in the section designated for Covid patients and fled after cutting grills of their barracks. These inmates were sent to Rewari jail after they tested positive for Covid, the spokesman added.
The undertrails who had escaped from the jail are facing cases including murder, theft, dacoity and rape in Rewari and Mahendergarh.
As many as 493 Covid positive undertrial prisoners from different parts of the state are lodged in the special section of the Rewari jail.
Inmates from different Haryana jails are shifted to this facility for isolation and treatment once they test positive for Covid-19.
