Focus on alternative methods of teaching: Minister to varsities

The State Minister for higher education and cooperative development, Dhan Singh Rawat has said that the universities should focus on alternative methods of imparting education for forging an effective and better communication with the students during this period of pandemic. He was speaking in the inaugural session of a lecture series organised by the Doon University on Friday.

The Minister said that the state government is taking every possible measure to effectively combat the pandemic of Covid-19.

He said that oxygen beds and ventilators are available in the hospitals of the state and medicines have been distributed in 80 percent of the villages. Rawat said that adequate funds have been made available to the village Panchayats so that challenges are tackled at village level. He informed that the state government is providing free ration for a period of three months to the families.

Notes cardiologist and Professor at GB Pant hospital Delhi, Dr Mohit Gupta said that by using the mental energy in a positive and constructive manner the challenges posed by the Covid 19 can be reduced. He added that this will also help in reducing the common diseases to a large extent. Dr Gupta said that experiments have proved that the process of many diseases is dependent on the mental approach.

He said that many diseases can be treated by spirituality and Yoga. Former Vice Chancellor (VC) of HNB Garhwal University S P Singh said that the universities should undertake research to prevent the infection of the virus from spreading.

He advocated for coordination between the society and the universities in his address. In her welcome address the VC of Doon University Surekha Dangwal explained the academic working plan of the university and said that the university would undertake and promote research for the benefit of the society.

The programme was coordinated by the dean of student welfare H C Purohit and attended by a large number of faculty members and students.
