Hindolakhal police received information that deer meat was being sold near Nagar village after which senior superintendent of police, Tripti Bhatt constituted a joint team of Devprayag and Hindolakhal police who arrested Ramesh and his son Jagdish from the spot while selling about 21 kilogrammes of deer meat in the forest. Two others- Dinesh and Bhagwan of the same village were arrested for buying 5.5 kilogrammes of deer meat. After getting it confirmed as wild venison by a veterinarian, the police registered a case under the Wildlife (Protection) Act against the accused and arrested them.
