At least four villagers were trapped under the debris after an illegal coal mine caved-in at Chandankiyari block of Bokaro on Friday, local sources said. However, there was no official confirmation of the incident by the time this report was filed on Sunday.

Police sources said that no such incident ever happened, but rumours were being spread in the area about a mine cave-in. Meanwhile, the families of those allegedly trapped in the debris are pleading for help from the local administration.

Local sources said that a woman and three men from Tilatand village located next to Parvatpur coal block were trapped under the debris and are feared dead.

The police are also refraining from saying anything in this regards. There is an atmosphere of panic in the area after the incident. Police sources said that the police are investigating the matter.

Parbatpur coal minmine, where the incident happened is abandoned and belongs to BCCL. The locals sometimes enter it to collect coal for domestic use. It seems the four of them had gone to pick up coal when a coal layer suddenly collapsed and they got trapped inside.

“The persons trapped inside could be Laxman Rajwar, Ravana Rajwar, Anadi Singh and Bharat Singh. Their family members have told me that they were missing after the incident. A few villagers also claimed that they had heard their voices inside the mine,” a villager said.
